hey ya doin. i've got a big day today, so i'll have to type in yesterday's playlist later. in the meantime, you may enjoy Dismuke's 1920s & 1930s Recordings. his real audio files load pretty quickly and play smoothly and are fun to listen to. i haven't read much of his text, but i believe these are 78s from his own collection. the first two times i tried to access the site and the music, i crashed/froze. however, this was most likely due to my having too many apps open at the time, not anything to do w/ his site. another day, another reboot usually will mend problems you may have getting multimedia links to play. (now i sound like leo!)

hey. well, here's that promised playlist from jan 15 (recall that on jan 22, coffeetime had a guest host). but, before you look that over, you should go see this incredible site: davidrumsey.com. i saw david rumsey interviewed on 'the screensavers' last night and, for those of you who missed the show or don't watch it or don't get techtv (yow, you poor ppl), you should check this out. he's a map collector and cartographer and he's put a large part of his collection online. you can find maps of your hometown from the 18th century and zoom in so close that you see all the engraver's marks. it amazing! maps are lots of fun and old maps have mystery and romance and art. and, as if this weren't enough, there are globes on the site too. as well as some nifty innovative ways to present the information. check it out.

apologies, i've still not typed in the playlist for a week ago yesterday, er, um, that is, the show of jan15. i iwll do this soon -- promise!

meanwhile, thanks so much to guest host, bob biletch, who did a fine show yesterday (along the theme of 'on them move'). bob got the chance to host coffeetime by donating generously during our fundraiser this past november. and this is the third year he's done that. thanks again bob!

and, since i have your attention, let's all go look at something useful on the web: a page that will spit out as many characters of 'lorem ipsum' as you might need. you don't know why you might need 'lorem ipsum'? well, you would need it if you want some dummy text to put into a page layout you might be designing for someone (or even for yourself), where the actual text may not yet be written. 'lorem ipsum' is some text in latin (or a latin-like fake language -- not being fluent in latin, i really couldn't verify this for you), and it's useful to use as dummy text b/c clients won't try to read it. they'll just see it as a text placeholder and look more at your overall design -- which is what you want them to do. enjoy.

Monday, January 14, 2002

hey there. well, i was going to mention frank blair, who was on the 'today' show for 22 years (they seem to be ignoring him in their 50th birthday celebration) and link his name to a site featuring some interesting facts about him. but google didn't turn up much, so here's a link to a sweet tribute to j fred muggs. someone should really do a webpage tribute to frank blair, though. i will say, at least they included the wonderful edwin newman, even if they did push him to the end of the show.

now for last tuesday's 'coffeetime' playlist.

i apologize, i'm so lame. i owe you two playlists -- and one of them, the one for this past wednesday's 'in the margin of the other,' is pretty durn interesting. so hang on and maybe i'll be good over the weekend.

in the meantime, tonight's 'the screensavers' on techtv had a piece on a laptop band CatFive -- 5 guys sampling in a jamming sort of way on laptops (and one guy was using a Fisher Price turntable). pretty cool.

Wednesday, January 02, 2002

it's wednesday and i'll be sitting in for sue on 'in the margin of the other' this afternoon, 4 to 6 on wmbr, so give a listen if you're around a radio or computer. as for the playlist to yesterday's coffeetime, well, let's wait a bit. i promise playlists from both shows within days. i promise.

in the meantime, this morning i found this site for info on dogs and cats, greatpets.com. of course, perhaps you have yet to visit these wonderful sites: PETA, HSUS, IFAW, and Farm Sanctuary. not only do these sites have a wealth of important information about the well-being of non-human animals, they are all really well designed and fun to surf through. check 'em out.
